Canadian Citizenship Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must meet certain requirements, including:

Permanent Resident Status: You must have permanent resident status in Canada.

Physical Presence: You must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) out of the last 5 years before applying.

Income Tax Filing: You need to have filed your taxes for at least 3 years within the 5-year period, if required under the Income Tax Act.

Language Proficiency: Demonstrate adequate knowledge of English or French if you are between 18 and 54 years old.
Pass the citizenship test (required for 18-54 years old).

Language Requirements

Proving your language proficiency, applicants must submit one of the following documents:

Results from an approved language testing party; or

Transcripts, certificates or a diploma from a secondary or post-secondary education in English or French; or

Proof of achieving Canadian Level Benchmark (CLB) 4 or higher.

Applicants must show they understand the rights and responsibilities of citizens and have basic knowledge of Canada's geography, political system, and history.
